Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert

Program Description


Enhance your resume with the widely recognized and in demand Microsoft Office Specialist Expert (MOS Expert) certification.  A Microsoft Office Specialist is essential in most professional settings and earning a Microsoft Office Expert certification is a recognized credential that signifies an attainment of a deep level of knowledge and technical skills needed to use the Office suite.

The program features courses that will teach essential skills for earning a MOS Expert Workforce Training Certificate and preparation for the MOS Expert certification exam. Topics to be covered include the basic Microsoft Office suite skills such as creating and refining Word documents, constructing spreadsheets and formulating data in Excel, utilizing Outlook to enhance productivity, and streamlining communications, and designing persuasive PowerPoint presentations to captivate audiences. The certification exams are included in the program’s cost.

Students entering this program should have basic math and computer skills, good planning skills, and good problem-solving skills.

Microsoft Office Specialist jobs can be found at a number of profit and non-profit organizations.  Students will be better prepared to effectively lead others in a variety of business settings. Careers in this field are available in a broad range of privately held companies. Government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this Continuing Education Workforce Certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Manage daily tasks and processes by utilizing the various tools and features available in the Office suite;
  2. Craft professional and visually appealing documents, presentations, and emails to clearly convey the message to colleagues and clients;
  3. Use Excel’s powerful data analysis capabilities to make informed decisions based on quantitative insights;
  4. Utilize Outlook and other Office applications to seamlessly collaborate with team members, share documents using its powerful features;
  5. Use Excel to automate repetitive tasks, saving valuable time and reducing the risk of manual errors;
  6. Create PowerPoint presentations and Word documents to suit various audiences and purposes, adapting to the specific needs of any company or organization projects;
  7. Manage a schedule, tasks, and contacts effectively using Outlook’s calendar and task management features;
  8. Generate sophisticated reports and visualizations using Excel to better understand data and communicate findings; and
  9. Develop skills and stay relevant in the ever-evolving workplace by mastering the latest updates and features within the Microsoft Office suite

CCBC Credential: Students will be awarded a Continuing Education Workforce Certificate, and will have access to a Continuing Education academic record (transcript).

Financial Aid and Payment Options


We offer financial aid by packaging public and private funding options to those who qualify, in select Continuing Education courses and programs. Additional opportunities for financial support include partial payment options through Nelnet Business Solutions and tuition waivers for those who qualify. Resources outside of CCBC may also be available through employer/sponsor paid tuition, the Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), and your local office of workforce development.

Some CE Workforce Development Certificate Programs are eligible for early high school funding through Maryland Blueprint for qualifying BCPS high school students.  Please check with your School Counseling Office to determine your eligibility for the BCPS Tuition Benefit Program.

Academic Requirements:

  • Basic math and computer skills

Registration Requirements:

  • Registration for all MOS Associate Certification Training -  Module 1, Module 2, Module 3 and Module 4 are required during the registration process

Hardware Requirements:

  • This course must be taken on a PC. Macs and Chromebooks are not compatible.

Software Requirements:

  • PC: Windows 10 or later.(Windows 11 users, it is recommended to have 8-16GB of RAM for best results.)
  • Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge is also compatible.
  • Microsoft Office 365, 2021, or 2019 (not included in enrollment). While you can use an older version of Microsoft Office, if you do, there will be some differences between your version and what you see in the course.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

Other:

  • Email capabilities and access to a personal email account.

To apply, go to www.ccbcmd.edu/apply and complete the CCBC Continuing Education Workforce Certificate program application.  An email will then be sent with program information and any additional requirements necessary to apply for the program.

Open Entry – No screening or documentation required.

To earn the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert certification, student must complete the following requirements:

1. Pass three of the following exams:

  • For students using Microsoft Office2019/2021:
    • MO-100: Microsoft Word
    • MO-200: Microsoft Excel
    • MO-300: Microsoft PowerPoint
    • MO-400: Microsoft Outlook
  • For students using Microsoft Office 365:
    • MO-110: Microsoft Word
    • MO-210: Microsoft Excel
    • MO-310: Microsoft PowerPoint
    • MO-400: Microsoft Outlook

2. In addition to #1 above, pass any two of the following three Expert exams:

  • For students using Microsoft Office 2019/2021:
    • MO-101: Microsoft Word Expert
    • MO-201: Microsoft Excel Expert
    • MO-500: Microsoft Access Expert
  • For students using Microsoft Office 365:
