The Building Automation Systems (BAS) certificate prepares students for an entry-level position with an HVAC Building Automation company.  Course and lab work prepare them for this computer-based aspect of HVAC.  This field contains integration of HVAC and networked IT systems that control all major buildings today.

Note


*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.

 

Program Description


The Building Automation Systems (BAS) certificate prepares students for the highest paying entry-level position in HVAC with a Building Automation company.  Course and lab work prepare them for this computer-based aspect of HVAC.  This field contains integration of HVAC and networked IT systems that control all major buildings today.  Students will be prepared for this high-demand and high-tech field with both computer skills and commercial HVAC knowledge.

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:

  1. analyze commercial HVAC system design as it is used for large buildings and advanced large-scale systems;
  2. employ computer-aided design basics as they are used in the building automation industry for graphics at user interface level;
  3. summarize the use of information technology as it is employed in the network systems that support the building automation systems;
  4. demonstrate the use of building automation system hardware and software to control HVAC system operations and energy consumption;
  5. interpret construction drawings to include mechanical, electrical, and structural sets;
  6. install building automation systems for building electrical and mechanical systems;
  7. program operational sequences for building equipment and systems; and
  8. commission building systems and the related components to ensure effective performance and compliance with building.
