Short Description


The Aircraft Dispatcher degree prepares graduates for employment as Aircraft Dispatchers in fixed base operator (FBO), airline, or corporate flight operations.  Aircraft Dispatchers are responsible for important aspects of flight planning, including routing, weather forecasting, aircraft performance and loading, fuel calculations, and aircrew and aircraft scheduling.  These professionals typically work in a flight operations center and perform flight following to provide assistance to pilots if weather conditions or other criteria necessitate route changes.

Note


*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.

The Aircraft Dispatcher degree prepares graduates for employment as Aircraft Dispatchers in fixed base operator (FBO), airline, or corporate flight operations.  Aircraft Dispatchers are responsible for important aspects of flight planning including routing, weather forecasting, aircraft performance, cargo and passenger loading, fuel calculations, and aircrew and aircraft scheduling.  These professionals typically work in a flight operations center and perform flight following to provide assistance to pilots if weather conditions or other criteria necessitate route changes.

This degree includes an FAA-approved Aircraft Dispatcher Certification Course, which is authorized to provide endorsements for the FAA Aircraft Dispatcher practical test administered at CCBC.

Program Outcomes:


Educational Outcomes


Upon completion of this program, graduates will:

  1. be certified as a licensed FAA Aircraft Dispatcher;
  2. be qualified for employment with regional and major airlines, corporate flight departments, charter or cargo operators, fixed base operators, aviation training centers, or with a government agency or military service; and
  3. be qualified for employment for non-aviation positions available with other transportation related services, law enforcement, or other federal, state, and local agencies.

Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this degree program, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate leadership, teamwork, managerial, and organizational skills within the aviation industry;
  2. analyze and assess airline and airport operations, government regulations, and safety and environmental concerns to plan and implement appropriate strategic and tactical business methodologies;
  3. demonstrate flight proficiency, safety, and procedural skills to obtain FAA licensure required to secure a position as a commercial pilot or flight instructor; and
  4. communicate clearly and decisively using standard aviation pilot-controller phraseology.
