ADS 189 - TESOL Methods: Principles in Practice

This course is designed to provide basic ESL or EFL instruction to English language learners. Major topics include instructional principles and practice, English language teaching methods, lesson planning, and literacy.

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. design lesson and unit plans to teach core English language skills;
2. use varied instructional methods and techniques in English language teaching, including
communicative language practices;
3. design instructional activities that incorporate culture and technology into English
language teaching and learning;
4. evaluate options for instructional materials to make appropriate selections;
5. assess English language learners’ linguistic and intercultural abilities and needs; and
6. evaluate student work to provide appropriate feedback.
