ADS 184 - Foundations of TESOL


This course is designed to introduce theories and principles of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). Topics include the process of language acquisition, English language teaching approaches, and the roles of culture and technology in the English language classroom. Students must register concurrently for ADS 186: TESOL Practicum I.

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. ​describe the process of second language acquisition, 
2. identify factors involved in creating a supportive and respectful learning environment,
3. examine the role of culture in classroom, 
4. explain factors involved in teaching in different learning environments, 
5. critique lesson plans, and 
6. demonstrate instructional methods and techniques used in English language teaching.
