MGT 762 - Human Resources: An Application in Today’s Business Climate This course is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills used by entry level human resources personnel. Topics to be covered include how to effectively managing multiple generations in the workplace, managing conflict in the workforce, basic leadership principles as relating to the human resources function, and human resources as a strategic business partner in an organization.
Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. discuss generational differences and the impact they can have on a workforce;
2. cite examples of best practices for managing a multi-generational workforce;
3. demonstrate through role play how to navigate difficult conversations and deal with strong emotion in a meeting with staff;
4. discuss legal considerations when dealing with workplace conflict;
5. discuss types of workplace conflicts and approaches for addressing them;
6. discuss leadership styles; cite skills, competencies, and attributes of effective leaders;
7. discuss metrics and value propositions relating to the human resources function; and
8. identify ways that innovation can be driven across an organization by human resources.
