MGT 851 - Communication Skills for Workplace Success This course is designed to enable the student to learn and apply effective communication skills for success in the workplace. Topics to be covered include: basic grammar, oral and written communication skills, email format and etiquette, and customer service skills.
Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. identify the importance of using proper grammar, spelling, and capitalization through
a review of basic grammar skills;
2. discuss the importance of a positive first
impression;
3. demonstrate techniques to provide effective customer service;
4. discuss ways to improve verbal communication skills that focus on telephone techniques and
etiquette;
5. explain ways to improve written communication skills used in business
correspondence;
6. create clear, concise emails using appropriate email etiquette; and
7. discuss strategies for communicating effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
