ENGL 205 - World Literature I


3 Credit(s).

Studies representative literary works spanning five continents, beginning with the invention of writing in the Ancient Near East to the Age of Global Exploration. Students engage with a variety of forms of expression- epics, poetry, drama, and philosophical expositions. The readings acquaint students with the attitudes and ideals characteristic of each culture, as well as historical and geographical influences on the development of the literature. Students analyze how the literature reflects conflicts, desires, and themes fundamental to the human experience. Note: This course is a globally intensive course that promotes intercultural competency and global awareness. Successful completion of this course contributes toward the 15 credits of globally intensive curriculum needed to earn the certificate of Global Distinction. Course offered every fall, spring and may be offered during additional sessions.

Prerequisite(s): Grade of “C” or higher in ENGL 101
