General Education - 21-23 Credits

(Choose courses in each category from the list of approved General Education Courses . One 3-credit General Education course must be a diversity course.)

  • Biological and Physical Sciences 3-4 Credits.
  • Mathematics 3-4 Credits.
  • Arts and Humanities or Social and Behavioral Sciences 3 Credits.
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences 3 Credits.
  • Information Technology 3 Credits.

Program Customization


This program allows for computer course electives in CSIT and/or DCOM so students have an opportunity to customize their program of study to best suit their work or transfer requirements. Students may earn elective credits by participating in the SAIT internship program and can also package the electives into these five Options:

  • Information Technology (IT) Support
  • General Option
  • Microsoft Option
  • CISCO Option
  • Red Hat Linux Option

General Option


  • 16 credits of electives from CSIT or DCOM 16 Credits.

Total Credits Required for Degree: 61-63**


** A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101  course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101  during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the degree to 62-64 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.

Program Outcomes:


Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:

  1. install, configure, and maintain client operating systems in an enterprise environment;
  2. install, configure, and maintain servers and server operating systems in an enterprise environment;
  3. install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure for LAN and WAN networks and internetworks;
  4. diagnose and repair problems with servers, operating systems, and infrastructure in an enterprise system;
  5. administer networks and network operating systems;
  6. secure the above mentioned systems;
  7. advise senior staff/administration on issues surrounding network infrastructure;
  8. pass and maintain current industry certification in the area(s) specific to their program option (e.g., Red Hat, Microsoft, Cisco, Comp TIA); and
  9. represent the IT industry in a professional manner.

Program Description:


The Network Technology program is designed to provide students with the technical skills required for entry-level employment and with the course work necessary to transfer to a four-year institution. Students may select between the Cisco, Microsoft, Red Hat, or Security option, or they may customize their technology electives to best suit their work or transfer needs. Most of the courses may be taken online as well as in the classroom.
