CCBC’s Continuing Education and Economic Development (CE) division provides:

A flexible and supportive learning environment helps students embark on careers, attain continuing education certificates, gain career and academic skills, earn high school diplomas, or take personal enrichment courses. Continuing Education offers the opportunity for adult learners to earn licensures or continuing education certificates in more than 80 subject areas. From languages to art, from computers to health care, Continuing Education courses are designed to prepare students for achievement in the workplace or provide them with hundreds of lifelong learning opportunities.

Continuing Education classes are held on all CCBC campuses and extension centers, at numerous community locations and online. They can also be delivered directly to the workplace, making learning available to the community any time and any place.

Continuing Education develops relationships in the community with private, government and business organizations and promotes programs, courses and services that support economic and community development.

The Continuing Education division is organized to provide quality continuing education and contract training through two departments: Workforce Development and Community Education and Services. These departments support the continuing education needs of CCBC’s Schools of Applied and Information Technology; School of Math and Science; School of Business, Social Sciences, Wellness and Education; School of Health Professions; School of Liberal Arts; and School of Justice.

Apprenticeships help men and women to enter the workforce. The college partners with area organizations which deliver structured three-, four- and five-year training opportunities for people interested in the construction, manufacturing, or utility sectors including:

An apprenticeship is offered to the career-driven student who must be assessed and selected by an individual apprentice training sponsor, approved by the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council. Upon completion of the program, an apprentice receives a journey certificate as well as college credit toward an associate degree at CCBC.

Community Education & Service

Community Education & Service makes lifelong learning education accessible, convenient and enjoyable. Hundreds of course options touch every generation from youth to senior citizen and strive to put the college in everyone’s neighborhood. Through Community Education, CCBC provides courses throughout the region in public schools, libraries, senior centers and various community centers, as well as on CCBC’s main campuses. Areas of learning include:

Adult Education, ESOL, and Family Literacy focuses on helping adult learners master the reading and math skills needed to earn a high school diploma or enter post-secondary education or career training. Classes are also available to assist speakers of other languages increase their English language skills. In partnership with several county agencies and with grant funding from the State of Maryland and the U.S. Department of Education, this area offers:

The Senior Institute plays a vital role in the lives of thousands of 60+ adults. The Institute offers a vast and eclectic array of courses and activities. Organizations providing residential services for seniors can arrange customized contract courses for their residents. Classes are held at each of Baltimore County’s 20 senior centers, CCBC campuses and extension centers, and at retirement communities throughout the county.

Individuals with Disabilities

  • Center for Alternative Customized College Education for Special Students (A.C.C.E.S.S.) offers over fifty customized contract courses to non-profit agencies serving adults with developmental, emotional, and/or physical disabilities. Organizations serving these individuals are encouraged to contact the Center to arrange for contract courses to be held at their location or at one of the CCBC College campuses. Courses offered through A.C.C.E.S.S. include instruction in basic education, vocational preparation, life skills training, and personal enrichment, all of which enable individuals with disabilities to become productive members of society. Classes are held on days, evenings, and weekends using differentiated learning techniques.
  • Single Step offers academic, life, pre-vocational, and career training designed specifically for individuals with learning differences and disabilities that impact learning. Courses are offered on CCBC campuses on the east and west sides of the county. Single Step’s mission is to meet the transition, career training, and lifelong learning needs of the greater Baltimore area’s disabled community. Day, evening, and weekend courses are available. Curricula includes:

The Job Network is a partnership with the Baltimore County Department of Social Services and Humanim, Inc., to assist welfare applicants and recipients in moving toward economic self-sufficiency. Job Network has been a major force in workforce development in the Baltimore metropolitan area since August, 2000. Job Network offers comprehensive full-time services including career assessment classes to develop job search and interviewing skills, computer classes, case-management services to assist students in identifying and removing barriers to work, as well as skill development, job placement and job retention assistance.

From day trips that can satisfy a whim, to overnight and weekend excursions, our Travel/ Learn/Grow offerings can take you far and wide. Offerings include Broadway shows, museums, historic sites, wine tasting, mansions of the rich and famous, gardens, history, and more. CCBC has something for everyone.

We collaborate with both credit and non-credit faculty to develop travel tours that enhance the education in the classroom. Learn about the Salem witch trials and then visit the place where it all happened in a docent-led tour. Traveling overseas, we have language classes that will teach you the language of the country you are visiting.

CCBC’s study abroad program can be divided into two categories - those that focus on an academic environment and those that do not. If you are thinking about studying abroad, our International Travel Study office is available to help.
