Human Resources Professional

Program Description


This advanced level program enhances the skills of Human Resources practitioners by utilizing the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge, covering topics such as strategic planning, talent acquisition, employee engagement, employee and labor relations, diversity and inclusion, and corporate social responsibility. Upon completion participants will be prepared to sit for the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP credential. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) is for Human Resources professionals who work in operational roles implementing policies and performing day-to-day HR functions. SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) is for senior HR professionals who primarily work in a strategic role developing policies and strategies, overseeing the execution of HR operations, analyzing metrics, and aligning HR strategies to operational goals.

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this Continuing Education Workforce Certificate, students will be able to:

1. prepare to sit for the SHRM-CP® and SHRM-SCP® credentialing exams,

2. function more effectively in a human resources management role,

3. develop knowledge and skills to enhance workplace success, and

4. assume responsibility for continued professional and personal development through continuing education.

Program Credentials


​CCBC Credential: Students will be awarded a Continuing Education Workforce Training Certificate and have access to a Continuing Education academic record (transcript).

External Credential: Students will be prepared to sit for the certification exam for SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional SHRM-SCP).

Financial Aid and Payment Options


CCBC currently offers Continuing Education (CE) financial aid to those who qualify. We package public and private funding options to benefit students which include COVID-19 relief funding, the Maryland Sequence Scholarship, CCBC Opportunity Grant funding, Maryland Promise, and Baltimore County College Promise. Financial aid funding is available for select CE courses and programs. 

Additional opportunities for financial support include partial payment options through Nelnet Business Solutions and tuition waivers for those who qualify. Resources outside of CCBC may also be available through employer/sponsor paid tuition,  the Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), and your local office of workforce development.

Program Length


3 months

Courses start in September and February at CCBC Hunt Valley or CCBC Owings Mills.

Program Requirements


High School Diploma or GED

1-7 years of experience working in a human resources role; years of experience relate to educational background. Contact SRHM at www.shrm.org​ for details and current requirements.

For SHRM-CP:
Less than a bachelor’s degree: HR-related program - 3 years in HR role; Non-HR program - 4 years in HR role
Bachelor’s degree: HR-related degree - 1 year in HR role; Non-HR degree - 2 years in HR role
Graduate degree: HR-related degree - currently in HR role; Non-HR degree - 1 year in HR role

For SHRM-SCP:
Less than a Bachelor’s degree: HR-related program - 6 years in HR role; Non-HR program - 7 years in HR role
Bachelor’s degree: HR-related degree - 4 years in HR role; Non-HR degree - 5 years in HR role
Graduate degree: HR-related degree - 3 years in in HR role; Non-HR degree - 4 years in HR role

Application Process


To apply, go to www.ccbcmd.edu/apply and complete the CCBC Continuing Education Workforce Certificate program application.  An email will then be sent with program information and any additional requirements necessary to apply for the program.

Open Entry – No screening or documentation required.
