Engineering

Important Information

Short Description

Engineers make the world a better place by creating new innovations through the application of scientific and mathematical knowledge. Engineering is an exciting career that incorporates design work as well as applications. Engineers are problem solvers and follow diverse career paths. Whatever your interest is, there is probably an engineering field that encompasses it. As engineers are in demand, their starting salaries are often among the highest paid to college graduates.

Semester 3

Semester 4

  • MATH 253  or MATH 259  3-4 Credit(s).
  • Gen. Ed. Elective - Arts and Humanities 3 Credit(s).
  • Gen. Ed. Elective - Social and Behavioral Sciences 3 Credit(s).
  • Program Electives 6-8 Credit(s).

Courses Needed for This Program*

General Education Requirements and Electives - 30 Credits

General Education Electives:

Choose courses in each category from the list of approved General Education Courses . One course must be a Diversity course.

  • Arts and Humanities 3 Credit(s).
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences 6 Credit(s).

Program Requirements and Electives - 33-35 Credits

Program Electives:

Select three or four courses based on number of credits and intended engineering discipline – civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, etc.

Total Number of Credits Required for Degree: 63-65*

Note

*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.

Program Description

The Engineering degree program is designed for students to complete the majority of courses required by four-year institutions during the first two years of a baccalaureate engineering program. Early and direct contact with the university to which students are planning to transfer to complete their engineering degree is recommended, since there are wide variations between engineering programs in required and accepted courses. Course may be taken in any sequence if prerequisites are met.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:

  1. gain admission to a four-year engineering program;
  2. participate as an active member of an engineering design team;
  3. solve problems such as determining forces acting on a body using fundamental engineering design calculations;
  4. conduct tests for chemical components or strength of materials; and
  5. write and present reports on results of tests and/or mathematical analyses.
