General Education - 21-23 Credits


General Education Electives:


  • Arts and Humanities or Social and Behavioral Sciences 3 Credits.

Total Number of Credits Required for Degree: 65-67*


* A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101  course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101  during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the degree to 66-68 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.

Program Outcomes:


Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:

  1. apply software patches to operating systems and applications;
  2. assess a system’s security vulnerabilities using appropriate resources;
  3. use standard software tools to detect attempted security breaches of computer systems; and
  4. implement system security defenses.

Program Description:


This program prepares students for entry-level careers in information systems security. The program emphasizes computer and network security and information assurance concepts augmented with current industry-standard techniques. Topics cover threats and vulnerabilities, prevention at the technical (hardware and software) and human levels, detection, response, and the management aspects of security. The curriculum blends “leading edge” theory with a large amount of hands-on experiences for the purpose of developing confident and professional technicians.
