Simulation and Digital Entertainment Option - 25-26 Credits

Total Number of Credits Required for Degree: 64-66*

*A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101  course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101  during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the degree to 65-67 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.

The Simulation and Digital Entertainment (SDE) option provides students with the skills to design and develop computer games for advertising, educational training, and interactive simulations. The SDE option can serve as the first two years of the Simulation and Digital Entertainment Bachelor of Technical or Professional Studies at the University of Baltimore. Requirements for other four-year institutions may vary.

Program Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this degree option, students will be able to:

  1. use current industry standard video game and simulation development to prepare cross-platform video games that incorporate text, graphics, animation, video, and sound;
  2. create industry-standard design documents for the planning and implementation of video games and simulations;
  3. write well-formed programs in a structured programming style;
  4. work as a member of a team to successfully produce a video game or simulation;
  5. apply ethical practices concerning topics such as copyright, usability, and accessibility to the development of video games and simulations; and
  6. apply critical analysis to existing video games as well as video games that the students create.

Program Description:

The Computer Graphics and Visual Communication (CGVC) program prepares students for careers or transfer to four-year degree programs in graphic design, animation, motion graphics, photography, digital imaging, game design, and interactive media. This program, which incorporates a common core of six studio and digitally based courses, offers an A.A.S. degree with six different options for study. Please see curriculum degree and certificate options for specific descriptions. Students who select this curriculum and plan to transfer to a four-year college, university, or art school should consult with the program coordinator. This program offers a variety of specialized courses that may not match every transfer pattern.
