*A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101  course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101  during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the degree to 69-70 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.

Program Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this degree option, students will be able to:

1. secure employment in the FAA Air Traffic Controller workforce through the direct-hire placement initiative;
2. coordinate and regulate the flow of air traffic at all levels of airport density;
3. interpret flight plans and flight data to manage air traffic patterns;
4. function effectively and efficiently in a team;
5. monitor and communicate to pilots changing weather conditions;
6. apply FAA and NTSB regulations and other aeronautical and security guidelines appropriately in various aviation and safety settings; and
7. speak and communicate clearly and decisively using standard industry pilot-controller phraseology.

Program Description:

Air Traffic Control Specialists guide pilots to their destinations and are responsible for the safe and orderly flow of aircraft in congested airspace. Flight Service Station Operators assist pilots in flight planning by providing air traffic delay and weather condition briefings and by disseminating important route and airport information. Most of these positions are with the federal government, and individuals may be required to pass a physical exam and civil service exam.

The Air Traffic Control degree is specifically designed to prepare students for employment as Air Traffic Control Specialists working in airport control towers, Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facilities, and Air Route Traffic Control Centers (ARTCC). Most of these positions are with the federal government, and individuals will be required to pass an FAA Class II medical evaluation.

This is an FAA Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) program. Successful graduates will be placed in the direct-hire pool of applicants for employment in the FAA Air Traffic Controller workforce.
