Certificate Requirements

Total Number of Credits Required for Certificate: 44*

* A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101  course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101  during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the certificate to 45 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.

Program Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:

  1. apply software patches to operating systems and applications;
  2. assess a system’s security vulnerabilities using appropriate resources;
  3. use standard software tools to detect attempted security breaches of computer systems; and
  4. implement system security defenses.

Program Description:

The Information Security certificate program is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to analyze security vulnerabilities, create a comprehensive incident-response plan, and implement the equipment, policies and procedures that protect a network and its related resources from unauthorized intrusion, information damage, or theft. Behaving ethically, writing policies and procedures, securing operating systems, installing and administering contemporary intrusion detection systems and firewalls, implementing network defenses and countermeasures, responding to intrusions, and utilizing system-wide, multi-layered, compliance-based approaches are emphasized.
