Program Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:
- demonstrate the following core competencies: communication global perspective/social responsibility, independent learning/personal management, and problem solving skills by incorporating the core competency project in all capstone courses and an abbreviated version of the core competency project in all general education courses;
- transfer to a four-year institution for a degree in Information Technology and other related fields through articulation agreements with six (6) four-year colleges in the Maryland area and/or qualify for employment through internship opportunities available for graduating students;
- demonstrate the technical skills in programming, database, and web technology required for entry-level employment in the field of information technology and other related areas; and
- employ a broad knowledge of application software skills, technical skills, and information technology topics which are data communications principles, information security principles, object oriented design and application development using at least two programming languages, LINUX/UNIX operating system, relational database design and management, Structured Query Language, and business principles/methodologies.
Program Description:
The Information Technology degree program is designed to provide students with the technical skills required for entry-level employment and the course work necessary to transfer to a four-year institution. Students may select the programming or database option, or they may customize their technology electives to best suit their work or transfer needs. Most of the courses can be taken online as well as in the classroom. Total Number of Credits Required for Degree: 61-64*
*A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101 course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101 during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the degree to 62-65 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived. |
