History and Culture of the Union Movement Certificate

Total Number of Credits Required for Certificate: 12*


*A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101  course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101  during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the certificate to 13 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.

Program Outcomes:


Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:

  1. evaluate the history of the American labor movement, with an emphasis on political trends; 
  2. appreciate the presentation of American workers in movies; 
  3. investigate the impact of mass culture on the development of the labor movement; and
  4. understand the labor movement as a popular movement, reflecting social trends and not just self-interest.

Program Description:


Recognizing that an interest exists for specific training in the skills of the Labor Studies program, a certificate in the History and Culture of the Union Movement is offered. This program is designed for union officers, members, and staff.
