**A new college orientation requirement, completion of the one-credit ACDV 101 course, Transitioning to College, went into effect spring 2010. If you are a credit student who is new to college (meaning you have not successfully completed college coursework at another institution(s)), you are required to take ACDV 101 during your first semester at CCBC, thereby increasing the number of credits required for the degree to 66 credits. Students are required to provide an official transcript(s) to document successful completion of college coursework at another institution(s) in order for this requirement to be waived.
Program Description:
The Medical Office Assistant program is designed to prepare students for front office and back office careers in the medical office. The program provides administrative skills as well as a 3-course clinical sequence to ensure a solid foundation in basic clinical skills, venipuncture and specimen collection skills, and medication administration skills.
Graduates of this program may expect to find employment as administrative medical assistants, clinical medical assistants, medical transcriptionists, medical billing clerks, hospital admitting clerks, and hospital unit secretaries. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment in this field is projected to grow much faster than average, ranking medical assistants among the fastest growing occupations over the 2006-16 decade.
Courses may be taken in any sequence as long as prerequisites are met. Some courses may be offered in alternate semesters. Some courses in the Medical Office Assistant program are offered in a self-paced mode of instruction or online and are so designated in the schedule of classes. Credit by exam is available for selected courses.
Articulation: Baltimore County high school graduates may be eligible for advanced placement and credit in Office Administration courses. Call the program coordinator for more information.
