CHA 210 - Veterinary Assisting I 2.7 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
This course is designed to familiarize the student with special needs with the veterinary assistant’s role in the area of diagnostics and pharmacy. Topics to be covered include: veterinary diagnostics, pharmacy, pharmacology, OSHA standards, and basic laboratory equipment and procedures.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. demonstrate an understanding of client education and preventative medical care of animals;
2. demonstrate an understanding OSHA standards as they pertain to the veterinary profession;
3. demonstrate an understanding of proper handling of pharmacy inventory;
4. identify and define common pharmacy abbreviations;
5. identify common laboratory equipment, their parts and proper use;
6. identify blood collection tube types;
7. describe and demonstrate proper laboratory techniques; and
8. demonstrate an understanding of diagnostic imaging techniques, processes and materials.
