CHA 208 - Practical Skills for the Veterinary Assistant


1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to provide the student, who has special needs, with the foundational skills needed for veterinary assisting. Topics to be covered include: the human-animal bond, communication, applied math skills, professional conduct, customer service, and front office procedures.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. describe the human-animal bond;
2. utilize effective writing strategies for composing documents including medication logs, medical records, hospital forms, and phone logs;
3. demonstrate proper telephone etiquette;
4. demonstrate proper client service etiquette;
5. demonstrate proficiency in commonly applied mathematics in the medical field; and
6. demonstrate effective communication skills in the workplace.
