MGT 844 - Empowerment: Inspiring Critical Thinking


.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the student, who is a manager or supervisor, to learn how to foster an environment that encourages creative problem solving and improvement and creating a healthy workplace where employees can constantly work to improve the way things are done. Topics to be covered include incorporating critical thinking elements throughout the workday, fostering questions and open discussion, creating diversity in work groups and discussions, and creating time to evaluate situations in order to make better decisions.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. demonstrate skills to enable a participant to take charge of ideas,
2. explain how critical thinking will reduce bias and provide a greater understanding of the environment,
3. discuss ways to cultivate creativity in employees’ solving problems,
4. determine creative and critical strengths and weaknesses of a team,
5.explain how decision making can be monitored to increase in managerial effectiveness, and
6.describe methods to prepare others to think critically using critical thinking strategies.
