Mortuary Science

  
  • MORS 141 - Mortuary Laws and Practices I


    2 Credits.

    Introduces the student to sources of law; covers state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to a funeral service and the legal aspects of being a licensed funeral director/mortician. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

    Prerequisite(s): MORS 106 , BIOL 245 , and BIOL 252  with a “C” or better
  
  • MORS 142 - Mortuary Laws and Practices II


    3 Credits.

    Examines the legal principles involved in the conduct of business; covers contracts, agency, bailment, negotiable instruments, legal forms, liability, real property, and wills and estates. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

    Prerequisite(s): MORS 141  with a “C” or better. Students who have successfully completed two college-level business law courses equivalent to MNGT 140  and MNGT 141  may apply for a waiver for MORS 142
  
  • MORS 151 - Thanatology


    3 Credits.

    Provides an understanding of the symbolic and ritualistic aspects of the funeral, which have a significant impact on the emotional experience of the bereaved; covers psychological concepts in the areas of grief, bereavement and mourning, ethics, and communication skills within the funeral service profession. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

    Prerequisite(s): MORS 101 , MORS 131 , and MORS 141  with a grade of “C” or better
  
  • MORS 200 - Funeral Service Seminar


    3 Credits.

    Provides a capstone experience; a culmination of the Mortuary Science Major’s preparation for entry into funeral service. Through experience and the application of knowledge, the student will demonstrate proficiency in funeral service theory and practice. The student demonstrates expertise by participation in authentic and/or simulated situations that are encountered upon entry into funeral service. The student will be required to take the National Board Exam (NBE) that is administered by the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Board (ICFSEB) as the final exam of the seminar. The National Board Examination requires a separate fee; for details see www.cfseb.org. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

    Prerequisite(s): Completion of all other program requirements for the Mortuary Science Program with a minimum grade of “C”.

  • MULT 108 - Introduction to Multimedia Scripting


    3 Credits.

    Examines how to script animated projects using a time-based software package. Students learn how to develop cross-platform multimedia projects that utilize an ECMA-based scripting language to manipulate and control internal and external data. Courses offered every fall and spring semester.

    Corequisite(s): MULT 109  with a minimum of C or higher or consent of instructor.
  
  • MULT 109 - Multimedia Authoring I


    3 Credits.

    Examines the use of computer technology to enhance presentations and create interactive educational and training materials; covers screen design, animation, and scripting. Note: Additional lab time outside of class may be required to complete course projects. Courses offered every fall and spring semester.

  • MULT 110 - Game Programming I


    3 Credits.

    Introduces programming using an event driven programming environment with an emphasis on simulation and game application; includes use of computers for learning games; event driven programming concepts; game hardware integration; usability and algorithm development; covers variables, functions, user centered design, control structures, data structures and random events. Note: Additional lab time outside of class is required for programming assignments. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

  • MULT 205 - Introduction to 3D Modeling


    3 Credits.

    Introduces students to a 3D graphics program. Students learn to create and animate 3D landscapes and objects. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

    Prerequisite(s): CGVC 120  or MULT 121 with a minimum of “C” is required.
  
  • MULT 209 - Multimedia Authoring II


    3 Credits.

    Examines how to author an instructional interactive multimedia presentation for CD or web distribution using a cross-platform authoring package; explores the built-in functionality of the package and the use of system functions and variables in creating an engaging learning application. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

    Prerequisite(s): ARTS 131 , MULT 108  and MULT 109  with a minimum of “C” required or written permission from instructor.
  
  • MULT 210 - Game Programming II


    3 Credits.

    Builds on skills learned in MULT 110 . Game Programming I. Students learn collision detection, multiplayer support, trigonometry and the application of basic Newtonian physics in electronic games. Additional topics include the use of graphics, audio, and high score list support. Courses offered once a year (fall or spring).

    3 Credits.

    Provides the structure and environment to design, develop, and deliver web-based multimedia projects. This is a capstone course in the Internet and Multimedia Technology program.
