Additional Information:
- This degree program is intended for students who have achieved national certificates in the health fields of polysomnography, pharmacy technician, medical coding, community health worker, and medical assisting.
- Opportunities to earn Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) - This degree provides articulation of credits based on prior learning assessment that is verified through completion of a national certification as noted above. Several General Education classes offer CPL. See Portfolio, Departmental Exam, CLEP, DSST, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate.
- Articulation and Transfer Agreements - While there are no program-specific agreements, see other types of agreements such as guaranteed admission, block transfer, and discounts.
Curriculum Maps
Curriculum Maps are a tool to provide students with a clear understanding of which courses to take and the order in which to complete them. Curriculum Maps help define a student’s individual path towards graduation, ensuring their time and efforts are not spent on credits that fall outside their program of study.

Program Requirements and Electives - 42 Credits
Program Electives:
Completion of an additional 6, 12, or 18 articulated occupational-specific credits, awarded for certification in a specified Allied Health field and/or program electives as listed below. Articulated credits will be determined by the agreement signed by the CCBC program Allied Health Program Director. Students must have at least 60 credits for an associate degree. Students may need to take additional class(es) to reach at least 60 credits. Electives should be considered in light of the requirements of the selected transfer institution, workplace skill requirements, or choose from recommended electives in the course list below to develop Allied Health skills. See the Program Director to determine appropriate electives needed to attain 60 credits. Total Number of Credits Required for Degree - 60*
Note
*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development 101 . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.
Program Description
The Allied Health A.A.S. degree provides an option for stackable credentials to achieve upward mobility in a health care field. The degree permits students who have achieved national certification in the fields of polysomnography, pharmacy technician, medical coding, community health worker, and medical assisting an avenue to receive both credit for prior learning and an associate degree with no duplication of prior learning content. Additional course work will be completed in the areas of management and leadership. This degree prepares graduates for expanded roles in health care facilities School of Health Professions Policies
Students in the School of Health Professions are expected to conduct themselves according to an honor code, exhibit professional behavior, and communicate effectively in English. Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: - demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of competencies within a predetermined field of study as evidenced by passing an approved national certification exam (certification must be current and in good standing);
- explain professionalism and adherence to ethical and legal standards in the healthcare environment;
- demonstrate critical thinking skills in relation to prioritizing, analyzing, and resolving issues in healthcare;
- evaluate leadership and management skills in the healthcare environment;
- explain techniques to effectively lead a team;
- communicate effectively with patients, significant others, and members of the interprofessional healthcare team; and
- demonstrate customer service skills with cultural sensitivity.
