Note


*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development 101 . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.

 

Program Description


The Kinesiology program prepares students for a professional career as a personal trainer or fitness specialist, or for transfer to a four-year kinesiology degree. Students learn how to conduct physical and health risk assessments, interpret assessment results, design exercise programs, provide fitness instruction and supervise fitness facilities. Upon successful completion of the Kinesiology program, students are required to sit for a certification exam with the American Council on Exercise.

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:

  1. develop safe and effective individualized exercise prescriptions based on an individual’s goals and health history;
  2. demonstrate proficiency in exercise science principles when leading individual and group fitness programs;
  3. conduct fitness assessments in laboratory and field-test settings in a fitness, hospital, or wellness facility;
  4. use the tools of effective verbal and written communication relating to fitness leadership occupations; and
  5. transfer to a four-year institution as a Kinesiology major, with junior year status.
