The Global Studies Certificate provides a broad understanding of interdisciplinary contemporary global issues and intercultural communication skills exposure and practice necessary to work in the ever-changing global economy.

Semester Sequence
This is a full-time suggested schedule for a student who has completed any developmental course work and has no transfer credits.
Semester 2

To complete the Global Studies certificate, students must take at least two consecutive semesters of one of these languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, or American Sign Language. Exemption from World Language (but not from the WL 6 credits) granted for:
- Students already fluent in a second language (when CCBC assessment is feasible). Requires pre-approval from certificate coordinator.
- Students who complete a two-language sequence with a grade of “C” or better at another accredited college or university. If out of country, would have to be approved on a case-by-case basis by certificate coordinator.
- Students who completed an AP or a CLEP language exam at a level equivalent to a two-language sequence.
Program Electives:
Choose 2 of the following to equal a total of 6 credits:
- Any course designated “GL” in the CCBC College Catalog.
- Any course for which an instructor and a student agree to create a “Global Contract.”
For students who wish to pursue global studies beyond CCBC, courses in Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology, and World Languages are strongly encouraged.

Notes
*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.
** These courses may also be used as General Education electives for a degree-seeking student.

Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be able to:
- effectively express opinions and evidence-based facts through both oral and written communication;
- demonstrate intercultural skills and cultural/global knowledge necessary to live productively in an intercultural work environment and community;
- participate in study abroad opportunities and/or local global experience; and
- earn a credential for current job/career enhancement and/or “stackable” credential for associate or bachelor’s work.
