Short Description


Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are revolutionizing the aviation industry.  Pilots who are trained to operate these aircraft are in high demand.  Graduates of the Professional UAS Pilot degree program will have completed all academic training required for the Remote Pilot certificate and may work as commercial drone operators.

  • Designated Statewide Programs include only the credit certificates and the Flight Operations Management degree.

  • Some Aviation classes have lab fees. Fees are subject to change at the discretion of the Community College of Baltimore County.
  • Opportunities for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) - For Aviation Technology, see Departmental Exam and Articulated Credit by Industry/Apprenticeship. Several General Education classes also have PLA opportunities.
  • Articulation and Transfer Agreements (There are no program specific agreements currently.)

*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.

Program Description


Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are revolutionizing the aviation industry.  Pilots who are trained to operate these aircraft are in high demand.  Graduates of the professional UAS Pilot degree program will have completed all academic training required for the Remote Pilot certificate and may work as commercial drone operators.  Pilots with this training may find employment with a growing number of UAS business and public service applications including surveying and mapping, on-demand media, search and rescue, law enforcement, aerial delivery, or with numerous government agencies or military services.  Non-flying positions are also available with the Federal Aviation Administration or other federal, state and local aviation agencies.

Some aviation classes have lab fees. Fees are subject to change at the discretion of the Community College of Baltimore County.

Program Outcomes:


Educational Outcomes


Upon completion of this program, CCBC Professional Pilot, UAS A.A.S. graduates will:

  1. achieve FAA Remote Pilot certification;
  2. find employment as a commercial remote (drone) pilot conducting mapping, agricultural, engineering, law enforcement, search and rescue, operations, on-demand media, or with a government agency or military service; and
  3. find employment with non-flying positions available with the Federal Aviation Administration or other federal, state, or local aviation agencies.

Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this degree program, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate leadership, teamwork, managerial, and organizational skills within the aviation industry;
  2. analyze and assess airline and airport operations, government regulations, and safety and environmental concerns to plan and implement appropriate strategic and tactical business methodologies;
  3. demonstrate flight proficiency, safety, and procedural skills to obtain FAA licensure required to secure a position as a commercial pilot or flight instructor; and
  4. communicate clearly and decisively using standard aviation pilot-controller phraseology.
