Aircraft Dispatcher

Short Description
This degree enables students to earn an Aircraft Dispatcher certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration. Aircraft Dispatchers are responsible for various aspects of flight planning, including flight routing, weather forecasting, aircraft performance and loading, fuel calculations, and the scheduling of aircrew and aircraft. These professionals typically work in a flight operations center and perform flight following to provide assistance to pilots if weather conditions or other criteria necessitate route changes.

This is a suggested full-time schedule for a student who has completed any developmental course work and has no transfer credits. Refer to the College catalog for specific requirements in selecting General Education Courses .

Note
*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.
Program Description
The Aircraft Dispatcher degree enables students to earn an Aircraft Dispatcher certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration. Aircraft Dispatchers are responsible for various aspects of flight planning, including flight routing, weather forecasting, aircraft performance and loading, fuel calculations, and the scheduling of aircrew and aircraft. These professionals typically work in a flight operations center and perform flight following to provide assistance to pilots if weather conditions or other criteria necessitate route changes. Aircraft dispatching is a rapidly expanding field with excellent employment prospects.
Graduates with an Aircraft Dispatcher degree may find employment as airline or corporate aircraft dispatchers, cargo operations and fixed base operator (FBO) management. Careers are also available with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Department of Transportation (DOT) and other government agencies.

Some aviation classes have lab fees . Fees are subject to change at the discretion of the Community College of Baltimore County.
Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this degree option, students will be able to:
- demonstrate leadership, teamwork, managerial, and organizational skills within the aviation industry;
- analyze and assess airline and corporate flight operations, government regulations, and safety and environmental concerns to plan and implement appropriate strategic and tactical business methodologies;
- measure the impact of global competition and security issues on the U.S. aviation industry, identify progressive actions to overcome these issues, and utilize technology to enhance efficiency and competitiveness;
- respond to changing paradigms and unique challenges associated with a culturally diverse workforce; and
- speak and write effectively for professional business communication in the aviation industry.
