Short Description


This curriculum prepares individuals for employment in the automotive repair industry or upgrades service and repair skills. The Automotive Technology Program (Global Option) covers a wide range of automotive makes and models, including a Chrysler affiliated opportunity.  The Automotive Technology program provides students with state-of-the-art automotive service and repair techniques. Technical training is provided in the classroom and in the lab on CCBC vehicles.

All Automotive Technology programs at CCBC Catonsville are nationally accredited by ASE/NATEF (Master).

Semester Sequence


This is a suggested schedule for a student who has completed any developmental course work and has no transfer credits.

Note


*Credit students who are new to college (no successfully completed transferable college credits from other institutions) are required to take ACDV 101 - Academic Development: Transitioning to College . This 1-credit course is designed to be taken in the first semester at CCBC. Students must provide an official transcript(s) from an accredited institution to document successful completion of college coursework for the ACDV 101 requirement to be waived.

Program Description


The mission of the Automotive Technology Program at CCBC is to prepare students for successful employment or advancement as automotive technicians. The Automotive Program awards a certificate, and/or an Associate in Applied Science Degree. The Associate in Applied Science Degree can be achieved through any one of three pathways.  Those pathways include a Global option which covers a wide range of automotive makes and models, including a Chrysler affiliated opportunity–Fiat/Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Career Automotive Opportunity (CAP Local), and two additional Manufacturer-Specific options including Ford and General Motors.  The Automotive Technology program provides students with state-of-the-art automotive service and repair techniques. Technical training is provided in the classroom and in the lab on CCBC vehicles.

This curriculum prepares individuals for employment in the automotive repair industry or upgrades service and repair skills. Job opportunities include journeyman, garage, agency and line technicians. Competency in engine drivability diagnosis and electrical/electronic diagnosis and repair as well as general service in other systems will be developed.

Students who choose this curriculum and want to transfer to a four-year institution should check with the program coordinator and/or academic advisor. Courses may be taken in any sequence as long as prerequisites are met. However, please see the Program Coordinator for the preferred class sequence. Some courses may be offered in alternate semesters only.

Global options are available full-time weekdays and part-time weeknights and/or Friday/Saturday, with starts throughout the year.

The global automotive program at CCBC Catonsville is nationally accredited by ASE/NATEF (Master).

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this degree, students will be able to:

  1. successfully complete ASE testing for Master Technician Certification;
  2. diagnose and repair engines and related systems;
  3. diagnose and repair transmissions and related systems;
  4. diagnose and repair brakes and related systems;
  5. diagnose and repair steering and suspension systems and their related systems;
  6. diagnose and repair HVAC systems and related systems; and
  7. diagnose and repair electrical and electronics and related systems.
