Program Description
This course trains certified Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNA) in the proper techniques, principles, and procedures for safe administration of non-parental medications. Topics include: drug categories; side effects; legal responsibilities; drug dosage forms; mathematical computations necessary for the safe and accurate administration of oral and topical medications. Supervised clinical experiences are provided. Program Outcomes
Successful Completion: CCBC Credential: Students will have access to a Continuing Education academic record (transcript). Career Opportunities: Certified Geriatric Assistants can advance their career by becoming a Certified Medicine Aide in a long-term facility. Program Length
6 weeks Course is held in the evening starting in April and October at CCBC Essex. Program Requirements
Must be a certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing; must provide a letter of recommendation from their Director or Assistant Director of Nursing on organization letterhead; and must provide a resume showing at least 2 years of current employment as GNA. Application Process
Provisional Entry – Must make an appointment and meet with the Coordinator, and provide GNA and employment verification, for acceptance into the class. Program Course Sequence
