VOB 151 - HVAC III: Cooling Systems and Refrigerant Recovery Certification 7.5 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
This continuing education course is designed for students to develop the technical skills needed to operate mechanical refrigeration systems and to prepare for the Environmental Protection Agency Section 608 exam. Topics to be covered include: cooling systems; refrigeration systems; the refrigeration cycle; using temperature and pressure measuring instruments; the Montreal Protocol; ozone depletion; refrigerant chemistry, reclamation, and recycling; the safe handling and transport of refrigeration containers; and piping of residential, commercial, and industrial HVACR systems.
Upon completion of this program, students should be able to:
1. articulate how heat transfer occurs in a cooling system;
2. calculate temperature/pressure relationships at key points in the refrigeration cycle;
3. use temperature and pressure measuring instruments to record readings at key points in the refrigeration cycle;
4. identify the major components and accessories of a cooling system and explain how each work;
5. state the correct methods and materials to be used when piping a refrigeration system;
6. interpret the Clean Air Act and EPA regulations;
7. demonstrate application of a refrigerant recovery system including the proper disposition of recovered refrigerant; and
8. prepare to successfully pass the EPA Section 608 exam.
