VOB 149 - HVAC I: Safety, Tools & Refrigeration Basics 9.1 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
This continuing education course is designed to provide comprehensive training in HVACR, covering both foundational shop practices and the theoretical and practical aspects of refrigeration. Practical skills will be developed through the use of tools and equipment for service, and students will master installation procedures including charging, evacuating, and leak detection. Topics to be covered include: the use of HVACR hand and machine tools; proficiency in basic shop practices such as duct installation, tubing, piping, and fittings; threading pipe; and the theory of heat transfer as it relates to the refrigeration process and evaluation of HVACR system performance.
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. use hand and machine tools related to the HVACR trade;
2. construct fittings and components from sheet metal and fiberglass ductboard;
3. demonstrate principles and applications of duct installation;
4. demonstrate principles and applications of the compression refrigeration cycle;
5. identify mechanical and electrical components of refrigeration systems;
6. perform basic service procedures involving hand tools, equipment, and instruments; and
7. demonstrate application of the regulations, procedures, and equipment that apply to refrigerant recovery, reclaiming and recycling as set by the Environmental Protection Agency.
