VOB 155 - Intermediate Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (TIG)


This course is designed to enable the student to advance their skills in the Gas Tungsten Arc (TIG) process. Emphasis will be placed on the student’s ability to prepare material and perform welding of flat, horizontal and vertical fillet welds and flat groove welds in carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Practice is geared towards AWS D17.1 Fusion Welding for Aerospace Application. Topics to be covered include safety, material and machine setup, horizontal and vertical fillet welds, and flat and vertical groove welds.

 

Course Objectives:

1. perform Safety inspection of equipment and accessories;

2. set up for GTAW operation on carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel;

3. adjust machine to correct polarity and amperage;

4. make horizontal fillet welds on carbon steel;

5. make horizontal and vertical fillet welds on stainless steel and aluminum;

6. make flat & vertical groove welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum; and

7. perform AWS D17.1 welder certification plates in all three materials in the vertical position.
