AHL 317 - MD Law, Jurisprudence & MBLEx Test Prep for Massage Therapy 1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
This course is designed to enable the students to explore the knowledge needed to sit for
the MBLEx Licensing Exam for Massage Therapy as well as the MD Board of Massage Therapy
Examiner’s Jurisprudence Exam. Topics to be covered include state licensing requirements; MD
massage therapy rules and regulations; a review of massage therapy modalities; ethical
considerations in therapeutic massage; anatomy and physiology; special populations; the
benefits of touch therapy; treatment planning and development; as well as a mock MBLEX
examination.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. explore the historical significance of massage therapy in Maryland as it relates to the
application of therapeutic massage;
2. identify and apply the rules and regulations of massage therapy in the state of Maryland;
3. examine how state licensing plays a role in the massage therapy industry and the
acquisition of massage therapy licensure;
4. prepare for the MBLEX national exam and the Maryland Jurisprudence Examination designed
for graduates of massage therapy programs;
5. determine how the systems of the body and their functions play a significant role in the
application of therapeutic massage;
6. list the many benefits of touch therapy, its use and application in therapeutic massage
and consider the role of ethics in the field of massage therapy; and
7. identify methods of test taking as well as methods to retain information necessary for
successful understanding of the MBLEx licensing exam as well as the MD Jurisprudence exam.
