AHL 316 - Introduction to Reflexology for Massage Therapy


1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable students to learn how to engage with the meridians and
reflex points of the hands and feet. Topics to be covered include Meridians; Reflexology
points; Reflexes; and indication and contraindications of reflexology in the application of
Massage Therapy.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. explore the historical significance of reflexology and its relation to the field of
therapeutic massage therapy;
2. assess the indications and contraindications of the application of reflexology on persons
with systemic conditions as it relates to therapeutic massage;
3. identify and manipulate meridians and reflex points of the hands and feet and apply
knowledge to the application of therapeutic massage; and
4. explain how reflexology manipulations are used for the treatment of common pathological
conditions as it relates to the application of therapeutic massage .
