AHL 315 - Massage Therapy Clinic


2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the students to explore the relationship and
interconnectedness between Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage, and Neuromuscular
therapy in a therapeutic clinical setting. Topics to be covered include the assessment of
therapeutic massage clinicals as it relates to the application of common massage modalities.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. explore how to effectively palpate muscles in the musculoskeletal system of the body,
look for and isolate Trigger Points for therapeutic release;
2. differentiate between the use of sound and unsound biomechanical principles as it relates
to the application of body mechanics in Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Deep
Tissue massage;
3. examine anatomical regions, planes of movement, anatomical positions and kinesiological
movements using advanced therapeutic massage techniques;
4. recognize when providing non-optimal massage application through effective body awareness
techniques; and
5. utilize therapeutic treatment techniques while recognizing the indications and
contraindications for the application of Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release and Deep
Tissue Massage.
