AHL 314 - Introduction to Myofascial Release


3.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the students to learn how to engage with the fascial
system of the human body. Students will explore Myofascial meridians, Myofascial Continuity,
and the role that Connective Tissue plays in the human body. Topics to be covered include
indications and contraindications of Myofascial Release, Connective Tissue manipulation,
myofascial stretching and unwinding, and Biotensegrity.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. explore the role that Connective Tissue plays in the human body as it relates to the
practice of therapeutic massage;
2. define and identify fascial compartments, fascial anatomy, and how the fascial system is
interlaced in the human body;
3. examine the interconnectedness between connective tissue changes and the development of
fascial dysfunctions in the human body;
4. explore the various methods of connective tissue manipulation through the application of
therapeutic massage techniques;
5. define principles of Biotensegrity and Myofascial continuity and recognize its
relationship in the application of therapeutic massage techniques; and
6. differentiate between the use of sound and unsound biomechanical principles as it relates
to the application of body mechanics in Myofascial Release.
