AHL 313 - Principles of Research and Massage Therapy


2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the students to learn how to conduct case study reports of
pathological conditions through the lens of the therapeutic massage practitioner. Topics to
be covered include research methods, ethics in health care, case study designs and ethical
documentation.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. define and identify elements of evidence based qualitative and quantitative research
methods;
2. explore and analyze ethical concerns in health care research for the therapeutic massage
practitioner;
3. identify critical components of research articles while performing searches for scholarly
journals relating to health care and massage therapy;
4. determine the value of utilizing scholarly and educational case studies in research for
therapeutic massage;
5. design a case study particular to common pathological conditions found in the field of
therapeutic and medical based massage therapy; and
6. review and apply knowledge of client interviews and ethical documentation as it relates
to research methods in therapeutic massage.
