AHL 311 - Principles of Business for Massage Therapy


4.0 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the students to learn how to strategically implement
business practices that lead to a successful business career in massage therapy. Topics to
be covered include marketing, advertising, online/internet presence, communication in
business, business ethics, self-management, laws and regulations, and employment.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. identify and evaluate the goals needed to strategically plan for developing a business
in massage therapy;
2. recognize how having the tools for self-management leads to opportunities for success
in business for the massage therapist;
3. recognize, explore and resolve ethical dilemmas in business in the framework of the
massage therapy profession;
4. utilize and apply fundamental protocols of communication for business in massage
5. apply methods needed to establish successful client-therapeutic business relationships
in the practice of massage therapy;
6. determine the difference between various employment opportunities for the massage
therapist;
7. identify and explore business start-up costs, associated costs, laws and regulations as
it relates to business in therapeutic massage; and
8. develop a business and marketing plan to be utilized and applied to developing a
business in massage therapy.
