This course is designed to enable the student to learn and apply financial literacy concepts and strategies for financial stability and growth. Topics to be covered include: personal finance values and beliefs, needs versus wants, budgets and spending plans, saving and investment, credit and building credit, and consumer awareness and financial trouble.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. demonstrate how to effectively manage spending, credit, and debt;
2. evaluate and compare financial products, services, and opportunities to make informed financial decisions;
3. define a credit score and illustrate methods to improve it;
4. explain the importance of good credit history;
5. contrast the strengths and weaknesses of a loan;
6. outline different types of loans;
7. distinguish between basic personal and business budget formats;
8. identify and explore ways to be an informed consumer;
9. recognize the warning signs of financial trouble and apply strategies to resolve the issue;
10. establish strategies for shopping on a budget; and
11. apply budget concepts to real-life scenarios.
