ADS 173 - Academic Success


2 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the student to develop the personal and academic organizational skills necessary to set SMART goals and create a study action plan to be successful in completing a technical program. Topics to be covered include: personal responsibilities and setting academic goals; learning styles; note taking and study tips; test taking strategies and overcoming test anxiety; reading and writing strategies for success; and online, blended, and service learning.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. identify learning styles,
2. practice reflective self-assessment for effective study,
3. demonstrate the ability to engage in collaborative learning opportunities,
4. practice new learning techniques to improve academic success,
5. explain the importance of good study habits to reinforce learning,
6. demonstrate basic grammar and essay writing skills necessary to complete a program of study and enter the workforce,
7. develop personal and academic organizational skills needed to be successful in a technical program of study, and
8. demonstrate an ability to set academic goals and the specific plans to achieve them.
