This continuing education course is designed to prepare students to design and deliver ESL and EFL instruction that targets specific need s. Topics to be covered include: assessment and evaluation, support for diverse learners, pronunciation, administrative matters in TESOL, and professional development.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the students should be able to:
1. design assessments and evaluations appropriate for various purposes in English language
instruction;
2. describe best practices in providing student feedback;
3. differentiate instruction for multiple levels/needs;
4. develop strategies to promote learners’ autonomy and skill development;
5. explain approaches for working with content instructors to develop materials and
activities for English language learners;
6. apply core principles of teaching pronunciation;
7. formulate strategies to address affective and administrative needs in instruction,
including ESL classroom management; and
8. discuss the role of professional development for ESL instructors.
