This course is designed to enable the students to explore the anatomical make-up of the human body. Topics to be covered include surface anatomy, musculoskeletal anatomy, kinesiological movements, body regions, planes of movement, directions, positions, and movement terminology. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to differentiate between the bones and bony landmarks of the skeletal system, as well as the muscles of the human body. Endangerment sites, indications, and contraindications for the application of massage therapy will also be explored.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. apply medical terminology and word elements to interpret anatomic and physiologic terms;
2. identify and label indications, contraindications and endangerment zones of the human body;
3. examine anatomical regions, planes of movement, anatomical positions and kinesiological movements;
4. apply anatomic directional terms when palpating the muscles, bones and bony landmarks of the human body;
5. identify and palpate types of joints found in the human body;
6. locate and palpate bones, bony landmarks and muscle attachments of the human body; and
7. demonstrate knowledge of the surface anatomy of the human body.
