AHL 251 - Advanced Medical Life Support Provider (AMLS)


1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the student to learn how to recognize and manage common medical crises through realistic case-based scenarios that challenges them to apply their knowledge to highly critical patients. Topics to be covered include: the use of scene size-up; first impression; history; differential diagnosis and potential treatment strategies; physical exam to systematically rule out and consider possibilities and probabilities in treating patients’ medical crises; and how to apply the Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) Assessment Pathway. Upon successful completion, the student will receive a National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAE MT) Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) Provider certification card.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. identify respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, endocrine/metabolic, and abdominal disorders;
2. assess shock;
3. recognize and treat sepsis;
4. evaluate environmental emergencies;
5. monitor and treat infectious diseases;
6. assess toxicological emergencies; and
7. describe the best ways to respond to an exposure to hazardous materials.
