AHL 259 - Community Health Worker Practicum

4 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to provide students an opportunity to observe trained professionalsand apply skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom in a real-world setting. A preceptor assigned by the facility will provide daily supervision and evaluate the student’s knowledge and skills. Successful completion of this course will prepare students for certification as a Maryland Community Health Worker (CHW).

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. describe the role and responsibility of a community health worker (CHW) in their specific practicum setting;
2. demonstrate an understanding of the CHW core competencies;
3. perform active listening;
4. prepare accurate documentation; and
5. demonstrate ethical and professional behavior.
