This course is designed to introduce students to the core concepts of health information systems, exploring the organizational structures, regulatory requirements, and technical components that shape healthcare technology environments. Topics to be covered include a comprehensive review of healthcare delivery systems, electronic health records, data standards, and interoperability principles essential for healthcare information management.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. examine health delivery systems and organizational structures;
2. identify key healthcare IT regulations and compliance requirements;
3. describe technology infrastructure components in healthcare settings;
4. explain health information exchange mechanisms and standards; and
5. analyze electronic health record systems and their implementation.
