ADS 091 - Math 3: Beginning Algebra

4.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to introduce the student, who is disabled, to basic algebraic skills. Topics to be covered include solving one and two-step equations, translating word problems into algebraic equations and solving them, solving multistep equations, equations with no solution, equations with rational numbers, using inequality symbols, solving simple equalities, graphing solutions of inequalities, and rewriting and solving formulas for a specified variable.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. determine if a given value is a solution of an equation;
2. solve 1-2 step equations;
3. translate number word problems into algebraic equations, then solve;
4. solve multistep equations, equations with no solution, and equations with rational numbers;
5. solve word problems by writing and solving algebraic equations;
6. describe and use the inequality symbols to compare numbers and values;
7. solve simple inequalities, including determine if a given value is a solution to an inequality, graphing inequalities, and writing the solution using interval notation;
8. solve application word problems by writing and solving algebraic inequalities;
9. evaluate, rewrite, and solve formulas; and 10. solve real world formulas for a specified variable.
