ADS 199 - Math 2: Decimals, Percent and Fractions


4.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This course is designed to enable the student to learn math skills beyond whole numbers, focusing on decimals, percent, and fractions. Topics to be covered include converting fractions to decimals and decimals to percent, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals and fractions, expressing decimals, fractions, and percent in equivalent terms, and real-world applications including calculating sales tax, discount prices, tips, bill totals in restaurants and stores, and adjusting recipes.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. perform methods to convert fractions to decimals;
2. perform methods to convert decimals to percent;
3. perform methods to add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals;
4. express decimals, fractions, and percent in equivalent terms;
5. calculate the state sales tax, and sale/discount prices using percent and decimals;
6. calculate tips using percent and decimals;
7. perform methods to add and subtract like fractions, unlike fractions, and mixed numbers; and
8. perform methods to multiply and divide like fractions, unlike fractions, and mixed numbers.
