ADS 203 - Real World Math Applications - Level 1 4.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).
This continuing education course is designed to enable students to reinforce math skills with practical applications using measurements, clock fluency, and calendar math. Topics to be covered include: measuring length, width, height, and depth using rulers and measuring tapes; measuring the volume of liquids and solids; measuring the weight of objects; reading analog and digital clocks; and using calendar math.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. measure the length, width, height and depth of objects using a ruler or measuring tape;
2. measure the volume of liquids and solids using measuring cups and spoons for recipes and medicine administration;
3. measure the weight of solid objects using a scale;
4. demonstrate the ability to tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital clocks;
5. calculate the duration and travel time to and from appointments and events; and
6. demonstrate the ability to use calendars for tracking activities, events, and commitments, including calculating how many days and/or weeks an event is, and how many days and/or weeks until an event.
