ADS 200 - Math 1.5 Introduction to Fractions and Decimals


4.4 Continuing Education Units (CEU). This course is not for Credit(s).

This continuing education course is designed to prepare students for Math 2 with an introduction to fractions, decimals, rounding, and reinforcing multiplication and division skills. Topics to be covered include: multiplication and division of numbers with up to three digits; and an introduction to fractions, decimals, and rounding.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

1. demonstrate the ability to multiply whole numbers with 2 and 3 digits;
2. demonstrate the ability to divide whole numbers with up to 3 digits;
3. identify what a fraction is, the parts of the fraction, and how to read a fraction;
4. identify proper, improper, and mixed fractions;
5. identify the relative size of fractions, including putting 3 fractions in both increasing and decreasing order;
6. demonstrate the ability to reduce fractions;
7. identify what a decimal is, the place values of a decimal, and how to read a decimal;
8. use strategies other than manip ulatives to calculate values, including using a calculator;
9. demonstrate the ability to round whole numbers up to 5 place values; and
10. demonstrate the ability to round decimals up to 2 place values to the right of a decimal point.
